Guest post: Unconventional tea delights

This week’s blog is a guest post from Fran Weeks, with some alternative ways to enjoy tea. For more from Fran, visit her blog ‘foodtealife‘.

They say ‘a cup of tea solves everything’ and I certainly live by this statement. Whether it’s an early morning cuppa to kick start the day or well earned tea break at work, there are many familiar occasions when we all enjoy a good cup of tea, but what about some more unusual ‘tea moments’ out there?

Have you tried any of these?

Cooking with tea: If you love drinking tea, why not involve it the cooking process too? Experiment and you’ll see how it can enhance a whole range of dishes. You can try adding it to sauces, cakes even soups. Treat it like cooking with wine and use black teas as you would red wine with richer foods, and green tea for lighter dishes that you might add white wine to.

Tea cocktails: Try making your own tea cocktails, the many fruit teas available including Ahmad’s own lovely selection of infusions make for some very tasty cocktails when mixed with a favourite spirit – Pimms is especially good with iced teas. Use hot tea in cocktails for a winter warmer.

Tea bag eye rescue: If you’re eyes are looking a little puffy, tea bags can really help restore them! Steep two camomile tea bags in hot water and leave them to cool off, place them over eyes for few minutes and you’ll have pretty peepers again in no time.

These are just a few of the many interesting ways to enjoy tea, aside from simply sipping it from your favourite cup. I’m sure there’s many more out there – can you add to the list? If you’ve got an out-of-the-ordinary way to enjoy tea let us know.
